Pontiac managed to united a number of tribes (and the French) in his armed struggle.
On May 17th 1763, Pontiac planned to attack British Fort Detroit and take it by surprise by sneaking into the ford with concealed weapons. He led an army of almost 300 Native Americans but unfortunately the British got wind of Pontiac's plan and were just in time to stop Pontiac and his men. Pontiac decided to lay siege on the fort and was joined by almost 900 men from half a dozen tribes. They managed to continu the siege for a couple of months but in the end, was forced to retreat. Nevertheless, this attack contributed to the British Royal Proclamation of 1763 which formally ended the Seven Year's War. |
