Osama bin Laden was the founder and leader of the terrorist group known as al-Qaeda. He was born in Saudi Arabia but also resided in Sudan, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Osama Bin Laden is held responsible for a number of terrorist attacks all over the world. As an Islamic extremist, he despised Western culture.

On September 11th 2001 the world was shocked by a number of terrorist attacks throughout the United States. Four airplanes were hijacked and the terrorist crashed them into three different locations.
One of them in Pennsylvania, one at the American Department of Defense, a building known as the Pentagon and most significantly two planes crashed into the World Trade Center of New York, also known as "The Twin Towers" . Hours after the attack in New York, the Twin Towers completely collapsed. These attacks resulted in nearly 3000 deaths and over 6000 wounded. Later, the destruction of the World Trade Center and the infrastructure of Manhattan first harmed the economy of New York City which eventually led to a global economic crisis. Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaida quickly were held responsible for the attacks and the United States began a war against terrorism, known as "The War On Terror". Osama Bin Laden managed to evade the U.S. soldiers for nearly ten years. In 2011 he was found and killed by U.S. elite soldiers, during a raid on a house in Pakistan. |
