Cleopatra VII was a queen of Egypt. She is especially known for her relationships (economical and personal) with the Romans. At some point in history there was a struggle between the Egyptians for the throne. Julius Caesar (who depended on Egypt's granaries) came to Egypt and made Cleopatra queen.

Cleopatra and Caesar fall in love and she got pregnant. In 47 B.C. she gave birth to a son called Caesarion. Three years later, Caesarion would become pharaoh of Egypt,
After Julius Caesar's death, Cleopatra had an affair with Marcus Antonius (Marc Antony), friend and general of Caesar. Marcus Antonius came to live with Cleopatra in Alexandria and Cleopatra gave birth to twins. In the meantime there was a Roman civil war going on for the Roman throne. When it became clear that Octavianus (also known as Augustus) would defeat the armies of Marcus Antonius, Cleopatra committed suicide. Probably by the poison af a snake. |
