Because at this championship, the Dutch National Team was amazing. Next to Marco Van Basten were players like Ruud Gullit, Frank Rijkaard and Ronald Koeman. Marco scored the winning goal at the semi-finals against the Dutch nemesis Germany.

At the age of 30 Marco van Basten was forced to quit his career due to his many injuries. By then he hasn't played any matches for nearly two years because of surgeries and revalidation.
In 2003 Van Basten returned to football als a coach of Ajax, the Dutch National Team, Heerenveen and AZ.
Currently he is an analyst at multiple tv-shows.
