George Washington

George Washington is one of the Founding Fathers of the United States of America.
Thirteen American Colonies of Britain wanted independence from the British Empire and went to war with Britain. George Washington was a general during this American Revolutionary War.  Some notable moments of his military career:
  • In 1775 George Washington drove the British from Boston and became commander-in-chief of the American Forces. 
  • On the 4th of July, 1776 the American Declaration of Independence (written by Thomas Jefferson) is signed in Philadelphia and is the first collective step from the thirteen states to forming the United States of America. George Washington is one of the men who signed it. 
  • At the battle of Yorktown, George Washington led the Americans to a decisive victory over the British, virtually ending the America Revolutionary War.
But George Washington is probably best known worldwide as being the first President of the United States. On the 30th of April 1789 he was unanimously chosen by Congress and inaugurated on Wallstreet, New York. 
He was president for almost 12 years and succeeded by John Adams, his Vice President.
