Jack the Ripper

During the autumn of 1888, London is shocked by the sudden murder of five prostitutes in the Whitechapel neighborhood. Their names were Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes and Mary Jane Kelly.
All these murder were committed with a knife and the women were all horribly mutilated. Besides, these murders were al committed within walkin distance of each other.

The following two years similar murders took place in the same neighborhood with the same distinct method of killing these women.
Although nobody knew who the perpetrator was, he got nicknamed "Jack the Ripper". The reason for this, was a number of letters which arrived at the local police station, describing the murders with lots of details. These letters were signed with "Jack the Ripper." The final victim was Frances Coles and the murder took place on 13-02-1891, after that nobody ever heard or seen anything again from this mysterious killer. Even today there are many rumors and theories about Jack the Ripper and his identity, Some think it was a Dutch sailor called Hendrik de Jong. A recent publication of a book by Patricia Cornwell, point to a painter called Walter Sickert. |
